Optically active 2-anilinopropionic acid esters are prepared in high chemical and optical yield by reaction of optically active 2-chloropropionic acid esters with a two- to ten-fold molar amount of an aniline at temperatures of 90 - 130 DEG C in the absence of solvents or diluents.
