The invention relates to a self-supporting moulding which has a decorative surface layer foam-backed with a supporting polymer rigid foam layer. In order to achieve an aesthetic improvement of the moulding, the decorative surface layer consists of sewn-together blanks of a flexible sheet-like structure. The complete decorative surface layer is sewn together from corresponding blanks of the flexible sheet-like structure in such a manner that it has approximately its final dimensions. It is then foam-backed in the mould without substantial stretching of the blanks and seams.
