PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system improving security.SOLUTION: An authentication system 1 comprises: a gate device 40 which can open/close a passage having first and second entrances; a first detection device 200 which acquires authentication information from an authentication medium 10 at a first entrance; a second detection device 300 which acquires authentication information from the authentication medium 10 at a second entrance; an auxiliary detection device 400 which acquires authentication information from the authentication medium 10 between the first and second entrances; and an authentication control device 23 which transmits the authentication information acquired by the first detection device 200 or the second detection device 300 to an authentication server. The authentication system controls opening/closing of the gate device 40 on the basis of the authentication result of the authentication server. The authentication control device 23 suspends opening/closing of the gate device 40 on the basis of the authentication information acquired by the other detection device when the authentication information is acquired by the auxiliary detection device 400 after transmitting the authentication information acquired by one of the first detection device 200 and the second detection device 300 to the authentication server.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
