A holding plate (12) is clamped to an inclined staircase hand rail by means of three clamping elements (14, 16). A drill bush holder (18) with a screw spindle (48) is screwed down until the drill bush axis is situated on the middle of the workpiece, then the drill bush is placed vertically by means of a water plane, for example, and fastened by means of a nut (52). The new drill bit guiding device permits the inclined drilling of workpieces in a reliable and accurate fashion. <IMAGE>
