Two-stage non-polluting fuel combustion system

Sub-stoichiometric initial combustion with prim. air (14) takes place in the first stage, the gases from which are cooled so as to give an exhaust temp. from the second stage at which virtually no nitrous oxide is generated. Sec. air (13) gives complete combustion of the cooled gases in the latter stage.The cooling of the gases is passive, typically by radiation via a cooling jacket. In the first stage preliminary mixing can take place, pref. using a double-cone burner (2). The initial combustion chamber (6) can protrude into the main one (7), which is enclosed by a wall (3). A cylindrical wall (4) encloses the initial chamber, and is connected to a burner (1) at the inlet end, while at its mouth is a mixing system for the sec. air, which is supplied via a separate conduit (11) passing through the chamber wall.
