In order to provide a shut-off fitting such as a shut-off flap, a ball valve, a spindle valve or a shut-off gate valve, the shut-off element, such as the flap, the ball, the valve body or the like, being actuable by means of a spindle or a shaft or suchlike component, the said component being actuable by means of a setting handle, in which it is possible to detect the state of the liquid or similar medium flowing through the shut-off fitting or available at the shut-off fitting while avoiding the disadvantages described above, i.e. while ensuring that the effort involved in installation is small and avoiding additional installation volume on the corresponding pipe, it is proposed that the spindle, shaft (3) or component be of hollow design and that a detecting element (6) or similar state detection element, by means of which the state of the medium flowing through the shut-off element (1) or present at the shut-off element (1) can be detected directly or indirectly, should be inserted into the hollow space, the detecting element (6) or state detection element being coupled to an indicating device (7) arranged at that end of the hollow space which is outside the shut-off fitting (1). <IMAGE>
