PURPOSE:To improve durability by executing the drive deteriorating no EL element with a matrix structure. CONSTITUTION:A figure is a chart showing the timing of a drive voltage of an EL element driving device, and respective electrodes of a row and a digit are driven at the timing, and is displayed on a screen. By turning OFF a line sequential scan drive voltage of the row electrode being a common electrode of the whole digit dot EL element before turning OFF the display data drive voltage of the digit electrode, every digit dot EL element is turned OFF nearly simultaneously, and no charge of the dot EL element of the row occurs a spike voltage to other dot EL element, and no deterioration of the EL element is accelerated. Although the flow of the charge occurring when the drive voltage of the row electrode is turned OFF is impressed to a row drive power source directly, since the power source is constituted so as to be provided with the ability absorbing current, no potential is raised to the power source voltage or above and no row drive power source is destroyed.
