PURPOSE: To produce a uniform water faucet hardware excellent in deep color tone and having a uniform dark tone by plating the surface of a Cu-alloy water faucet hardware with Ni and then plating the surface with Cr by using a trivalent-Cr plating soln. CONSTITUTION: The surface of a Cu-alloy water faucet hardware is cleaned and then plated with Ni. The Ni-plated hardware is dipped in a catholyte 4 consisting of an aq. soln. contg. a trivalent Cr salt such as chromium sulfate, a complexing agent such as carboxylic acid, sodium sulfate as a conductive salt and boric acid as a pH buffer and kept at pH 1.5 to 4.5. An anode 1 consisting of a Pt-plated Ti sheet is plated in an anode box 2 contg. an anolyte 3, and the anolyte 3 is separated from the catholyte 4 by a perfluorinated cation- exchange membrane 5 in a perforated plate 6 provided in the anode box 2. Under such condition, a current is applied at 1-100A/dm<2> density, and a surface- treated water faucet hardware having a deep and calm tone is obtained.
