Digital controller with peripheral devices

The digital controller includes a control unit (10) and multiple peripheral devices, for example sensors (14) and actuators (16), connected to the control unit by cables (12). At least one cable or at least one of the peripheral devices or at least one output of the control unit is associated with a signalling unit (20). The signalling unit is activated when a fault occurs in the associated peripheral device or in the associated data transmission line. In one embodiment the signalling unit is associated with the connector of the cable.
