A multipurpose instrument for motor vehicles has a numeral display sheet and an electronic memory (5) operated by a microcontroller (4), for storing information such as the cumulative mileage. This is firmly fastened by lugs (10) through the platen (2) bearing the memory unit, or may be mounted behind the dial plate (1). The cap is not easily removed or replaced, and any manipulation of the cap is visible.
