PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a shape recovery foam having excellent air tightness and water tightness and being capable of preventing the member into which it is inserted from deforming upon shape recovery by compressing an original closed- cell resin foam by exertion of a strain larger than the region of elastic deformation of the resin thereon. SOLUTION: A thermoplastic resin or a thermosetting resin is mixed with a filler, a blowing agent and an organic peroxide, and the mixture is kneaded and molded to obtain an original sheet. The sheet is expanded by heating to obtain a closed-cell resin foam. The foam is passed between a pair of endless belts opposed to each other at a specified spacing and compressed by exertion of a strain which is larger than that larger than the region of elastic deformation of the resin namely, a strain ranging from the plateau region satisfying the relationships: 0.05<(c-b)/(a-b)<0.7 (wherein a is the thickness of the closed- cell resin foam as the starting material; b is the thickness of the foam after shrinkage; and c is the thickness of the foam after shape recovery) from the strain causing the densification of the foam. |
