PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of maintaining the liquid crystallinity even at a room temperature or below and utilizable as optical, display, recording materials, etc., by utilizing a liquid crystalline (meth)acrylate compound having a specific chemical structure. SOLUTION: This composition contains a liquid crystalline (meth)acrylate compound represented by formula I [X<1> is H or methyl; (r) is an integer of 0 or 1; 6-membered rings A, Band C are each independently a ring represented by formula II, III, etc., (p) is an integer of 1-4; either one of Y<1> and Y<2> is CH1 CH2 , CH<2> C or the like and the other is a single bond, CH2 CH2 or the like; Y<3> is a single bond, O, COO or the like; Z<1> is H, a halogen, cyano, a 1-20C alkyl or the like]. At least >=10%, preferably >=5% of the compound represented by formula I is preferably contained in the composition. Plural compounds represented by formula I can be used in combination to thereby effectively reduce the crystal-liquid crystal phase transition temperature and retain the liquid crystallinity even at room temperature or below. |
