The filter (4) has a filter media (11) and a residual volume (12), which is provided free from the filter media. An air inlet main branch (2) constitutes an air inlet line of an internal combustion engine. The residual volume includes an enclosure (15) with an opening (13) placed through a wall delimiting the enclosure. The enclosure is provided with an acoustically absorbent coating (16) e.g. melamine foam. The opening has a diameter, which is equal to a diameter of the air inlet main branch divided by a division of initial flow of discharge and a flow of balance. An independent claim is also included for an air inlet main branch.
