PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bulk carrier equipped with an automatic cargo loading and unloading installation, excellent in volumetric efficiency. SOLUTION: The bulk carrier equipped with a storage tank 4 having an upper part in form of a rectangular solid and a lower part in the form of a hopper while having an opening on the upper surface is provided with an accepting hopper 9 to accept a cargo in bulk from a cargo loading and unloading installation at the pier, a stationary chain conveyor 10 provided with opening and closing gates 14 at prescribed intervals on a carrying floor 11 bridged in the upper part of one side of the storage tank 4 in its longitudinal direction in order to carry the cargo in bulk from the accepting hopper 9, and a mobile chain conveyor 17 provided at the lower part of the stationary conveyor 10 with its tip part perpendicularly positioned so that it can be moved laterally in the longitudinal direction of the storage tank 4.
