PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst body desirable to enable a photocatalytic article to develop a high deodorizing function when irradiated with light from a visible light source such as a fluorescent lamp. SOLUTION: There are provided a photocatalyst body comprising a metal oxide such as titanium dioxide (TiO2 ), niobium dioxide (Nb2 O5 ), iron sesquioxide (Fe2 O3 ), zinc oxide (ZnO), or tungsten oxide (WO3 ) or a compound metal oxide thereof, having an index a* of at most -1 and an index b* of at least 4 in the L*a*b* color space, and having a BET specific surface area of 40-500 m<2> /g and a photocatalytic article comprising a material such as a plastic, a metal, or paper and having the photocatalyst on the material.
