PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceiling lighting system for an automobile allowing a room space to be normally kept wide and hard to deteriorate with age. SOLUTION: The ceiling lighting system 1 for the automobile comprises a base 5 arranged on a room R side of a roof panel, a ceiling member 2 arranged in a room R side of the base 5 to form a ceiling in a room with a surface sheet 6 capable of reflecting a light, and a light source 3 arranged at the end of the ceiling member 2 for illuminating the surface sheet 6 of the ceiling member 2 with lighting-on to provide indirect lighting operation. The surface sheet 6 is formed of a flexible material, and a cylinder body 7 which can be expanded by a fluid is arranged between the base 5 and the surface sheet 6. Feeding means is communicated with the cylinder body 7 for feeding the fluid into the cylinder body 7 or stopping it and properly controlling the feeding amount.
