1469282 Float glass process PPG INDUSTRIES Inc 5 March 1974 [6 March 1973] 9747/74 Heading C1M In the float glass process molten glass in the refining zone is flowed on to the surface of molten metal before passing beneath a tweel and into the main float tank. As shown (Fig. 5) a barrier 61 is provided on the bottom of the refining zone upstream of a tweel 29 so that part of the molten metal float bath 16 is allowed into a downstream part of the refining zone. In a second embodiment (Fig. 1) a threshold member 25 is provided beneath the tweel which is sloped to allow molten metal into the refiner. In a third embodiment (Fig. 6) a supporting member 66 is provided downstream of the barrier 65. A trough in the member 66 is located between the tweel and the barrier which contains a pool 67 of molten metal. This arrangement enables glass to pass from the refiner on a thin lubricating film of molten metal 70. U.K. Specifications 1,469,281, 1,469,283, 1,469,284, 1,469,285 and 1,469,286. |
