摘要 1492184 Silver-zinc alkaline cell VARTA BATTERIE AG 16 Feb 1976 [15 Feb 1975] 06045/76 Heading H1B A silver-zinc alkaline cell comprises a positive mass 2 of AgO situated in a conducting cell casing 1, an insulating synthetic resin layer 8 separating the mass 2 from the casing, a layer 10 of porous Ag 2 O covering at least part of the surface of mass 2 facing the negative Zn electrode 5, a layer 11 of porous Ag covering at least part of layer 10, and a metallic contact member 9 connecting the porous Ag layer to the conducting cell easing. As shown, electrolytic paper 4 containing an electrolyte, e.g. containing 20% NaOH and 2% ZnO separates separator 3 from Zn electrode 5; in a modification a further insulating, apertured sheet 12 (Fig. 3, not shown) blanks off 10-98% of the area of the cell between 3 and 4; this gives a low-current cell, and the horizontal part of contact ring 9, of Ag, may blank off a similar area. Insulating layer 8 is of synthetic resin, e.g. P.T.F.E. or polyethylene; casing 1 may be plated with Ag or Au; 6 is a conducting cover and 7 a sealing washer. The AgO for body 2 is made by oxidizing 2-20 Á Ag powder; 2-6 g/kg of Au may be added; 1-4% fluorinated ethylene polymer and 2-10 wt. per cent Ag may be added to the AgO to improve compressibility and conductivity respectively; the AgO is pressed into a pellet and inserted into the container 1, 8, and the layers 10 and 11 are produced by partial reduction, either chemically with N 2 H 4 or NaBH 4 , or electrolytically at 300-600 mA/cm<SP>2</SP> in the above-defined electrolyte. The batteries may be used in wrist watches.
