<p>CLAMPING DEVICE WITH TIGHTENING DEVICE Apparatus for clamping a tubular member onto a nipple includes a closable clamping band having a first set of apertures adjacent a first end of the band, and a band closing bar adjacent the second end of the band. This barb is engageable in one of the apertures to hold the band in closed position with the first end overlapping the second end. There is a second set of apertures adjacent the second end of the band. A slot extends circumferentially along a portion of the band aligned with at least some of the apertures of the second set so that, when the band is placed about the tubular member, the apertures of the second set are engageable, through said slot, by one of two relatively movable parts of a band tightening device. A support surface spaced from the first end of the band is provided for engagement by the other of the two movable parts of the tightening device. At least one of the apertures of the second set is bounded at its edge furthest from the closing barb with a web having a radially outwardly extending tensioning bulge which provides for reliable engagement by the one of the parts of the tightening device engaging the second set of apertures while limiting the radial inward penetration of such part so as to prevent damage to the tubular member being clamped. Alternatively, when the tubular member is a hose, the said second end of the band can be curved radially outwardly with respect to the hose to be clamped for preventing cutting of thehose by the extreme end portion of the second end during tightening of the band.</p> |
