PURPOSE:To make the improvement in recording density possible while maintaining compatibility with conventional magnetic media by discriminating the respective tracks out of a group of information recording tracks discriminated by one piece of track number information of the read signal waveform of track positioning information. CONSTITUTION:A voltage detection circuit 15 feeds track number information 6' and the detection signal of a read signal voltage 2 of the servocontrol track in succession to this to a processor 17, and a 2f signal detection circuit 16 feeds the detection signal of the 2f signal 5'. The processor 17 compares the time since the point of time (point A) when the detection signal emits from the circuit 15 until the point of time (point B) when the detection signal emits from the circuit 16 until the detection signal eliminates and determines the value of a bit Q. It discriminates the track number from the track number information bit P taken and recorded from the circuit 15 and the bit Q. |
