PURPOSE:To reduce the number of the division of a modulator electrode by horizontally displacing by 1/n pitch, two electrode groups each made by horizontally arranging vertical stripe-like electrodes each having n horizontal openings. CONSTITUTION:Vertical stripe-like electrodes 42 each having two horizontal openings are horizontally arranged successively with spaces twice the width of the electrode 42 provided between them and they are connected to common wirings 42a-42c. Stripe-like electrodes 41 having the same structure as the electrodes 42 are horizontally arranged successively in the direction of the scanning of an electron beam in such a manner that they are horizontally displaced from the electrodes 42 by 1/2 pitch. Owing to the above constitution, the voltages of the electrodes 42a-42c are controlled by giving R signals to the electrodes 41a and 41b during the first 1/3 period of 1H, giving G signals to the electrodes 41a and 41c during the next 1/3 period and giving B signals to the electrodes 41b and 41c during the last 1/3 period. As a result, time-division pictures of R, G and B can be displayed and the number of the divisions of a modulator electrode can be reduced. |
