A carburettor which economises on fuel has a needle valve adjuster with a hollow cylindrical head. A piston slides inside the head and is normally held in the mid-position by two springs. When the engine is idling the depression in the inlet manifold forces the piston towards the pointed end of the needle and seals the central bore. As the engine speed increases and the inlet depression decreases, the springs restore the piston to the central position and allow extra air to flow to the carburettor and provide a lower fuel to air ratio.
|
