PURPOSE:To reduce material cost and enable to print with favorable quality even on a recording medium having poor surface smoothness, by heating a heat-sensitive medium in a pattern to form an ink image according to the heating pattern, and transferring the ink image to a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A heat-sensitive medium layer 1b of a heat-sensitive medium drum 1 is heated in a pattern by a current sensitizing head 4, thereby changing the heated part of the layer 1b from an oleophilic state to a hydrophilic state. Next, a water base ink 6 is applied by an ink applicator 5 to adhere an ink pattern 6a to the heated part of the layer 1b, and the ink pattern is transferred to an ordinary paper 7 being fed, thereby forming a record image 6b. In this case, no pressure is applied directly to the head 4 at the transferring position, so that a relatively high pressure can be exerted by a platen roller 8. Because of the relatively high pressure and because a liquid ink or a pasty ink with a relatively low viscosity can be used as the ink 6, clear ink images 6b can be formed even on an ordinary paper with poor surface smoothness by utilizing the permeating property of the ink. |
