Elastic gasket or seal is corrugated on both sides, the corrugations extending over its entire length and their crests sealingly bearing upon the surface(s) to be sealed. The material of which the gasket is made is sufficiently strong to cause the corrugations to broaden and spread as the surfaces to be sealed are pressed together. It also should be elastic enough for the gasket to recover its initial shape when the sealing pressure is released.
