System including a stereoscopic viewing apparatus 1, by which the relief is visible with the aid of glasses 2, and a manipulator 3. The latter includes a ball 4 which the operator can move in a space 5, and which is held by wires 6 which join it to the vertices 7, 8, 9, 10 of the space 5. The wires 6 are used for measuring the X, Y, Z coordinates of the ball 4. Each of the wires 6, beyond this vertex, is wound round a cylinder 11, which drives a digital shaft encoder 12; the latter thus measures the distance from the ball to the corresponding vertex. The coordinates of the ball are then calculated as a function of its distances to the vertices 7, 8, 9, 10, then input into the stereoscopic viewing apparatus 1. By moving the ball 4, the operator thus inputs its X, Y, Z coordinates into the computer 13, while continuously comparing its position with that of the figures 14 already input. <IMAGE>
