In the case of previous players for video and/or audio discs, during the loading operation the disc (2) is, for example, introduced horizontally over the turntable of the playing drive (1) and lowered onto the latter. A holding device fastened on a movable arm then fixes the disc (2) after centred lowering onto the turntable. The object was to simplify this sequence of movements. This is achieved if the arm with the holding device (8) is fixed in place and if the playing drive (1) is raised out of a position of rest into the horizontal operating position, the disc (2) to be played being fixed between turntable (S) and holding device. The design according to the invention is suitable both for single-disc players and for disc-cartridge players. <IMAGE>
