Effluent water is treated with a strong mineral acid in a container with good agitation until the pH falls to 7.0-7.5, which brings about flocculation of the contaminants comprising oils, suspended solids, surfactants and mineral bases. The soln. is decanted and filtered from the sedimented sludge, resulting in a clarified liq. which, after addn. of surfactant and mineral base can be re-used in a new degreasing phase. (0/0)
