The embossing machine has a control circuit (1) for positioning a type wheel with a drive motor (36) using actual value comparison (10) and an angle transducer connected to the drive. Mechanical reduction elements are connected between the drive motor and embossing wheel. The control circuit contains a circuit which feeds a control signal to the drive motor depending on the distance covered from the last position into the next one. A second circuit contg. digital control stages feeds a second control signal to the drive motor depending on a transducer output signal representing the wheel's angular position.
