<p>Known nail lacquers which include a film-forming resin, a plasticisers, and a solvent are improved by using as the resin a blend of: (a) a graft copolymer (I) having a main backbone chain of acrylic ester units and methacrylic ester units, the main backbone chain having grafted onto it pendant trialkoxysilyl gps. (only to acrylic ester units) and pendant ethylene glycol dimethacrylate gps. (only to other of the remaining unsubstd. acrylic ester units); and (b) a silsesquioxane resin (II) contg. RSiO3/2 units and = SiOH units (R = alkyl aryl). Pref. acrylic units are pref. formed from CH2=CHCO2R (R = 1-16C alkyl, esp. Bu); methacrylic units are pref. formed from CH2=CMeCO2R1 (R1 = 1-14C alkyl, esp. Me). The trialkoxysilyl grafts are pref. formed by reacting the main backbone chain copolymer with an acrylate or methacrylate functional silane monomer (esp. 3-methacryloxypropyltris(methoxyethoxy)silane) in the presence of a free radical initiator. Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate grafts are pref. prepd. by reaction of the main backbone chain copolymer with ethylene glycol functional dimethacrylate monomer in the presence of a free radical initiator.</p> |
