Automobile fuel level indicator

The vehicle fuel tank (R) has a sensor (C) to detect the fuel level by using a float (2), which is attached to a cursor (3) by a rod (1), and the cursor rotates along a resistive track (4) as the float rises and falls. Electric current signals which represent the vehicle fuel level are sent from the sensor (C) to the on board calculator (CA). Known quantities of fuel are introduced into the tank and the relationship between these quantities and the sensor signals is memorised by the calculator (CA) and then used to provide the indicating instrument (IND) with correct indications including interpolations according to linear or other prescribed laws.
