PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the new subject compound having low viscosity, little odor, excellent adhesiveness to several base materials and quick-curability, applying to high functional resin compositions for optical discs, optical fibers and the like and obtained by reacting hexanediol-hydroxymethyl with (meth)acrylic ester. SOLUTION: This (meth)acrylate ester is obtained by reacting 1,6- hexanediol-3-hydroxymethyl with (meth)acrylic acid, e.g. 1,6-hexanediol-3- hydroxymethylacrylate. The above mentioned compound is preferably obtained by using a nonreactive organic solvent as the reaction solvent and reacting preferably 3-4 mol (meth)acrylic ester per 1 mol 1,6-hexanediol-3-hydroxymethyl in the presence of a strong acid. It is preferable that the reaction temperature is 80-150 deg.C and the reaction time is 1-20 h. A polymerization inhibitor such as hydroquinone is preferably applied in the reaction.
