PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for playing back a disk with which desired data can reliably be played back even when there are unacquirable DSI(data search information) data, and to provide a method for playing back the disk. SOLUTION: A disk playback unit 1 skips a VOBU(video object unit) including DSI data when the DSI data unacquirable due to the scratch or the like of a DVD 20 are detected in the execution of a manual search. Then the disk playback unit 1 acquires the next search destination address of a search destination corresponding to DSI data not acquired previous time based on a search destination address indicated by DSI data acquired normally previous time, sets it as a target VOBU and plays it back. When DSI data are acquired normally, data for playback corresponding to the DSI data are played back, and the table number of a search destination address used when the DSI data are not read out previous time is cleared.
