PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve safety by achieving secure extinction in case of fall-down of a pot type oil burner. SOLUTION: A pot 3 in the shape of a cylinder with a bottom and having a number of air holes 3a formed in a side wall is mounted in a wind channel 2 to which combustion air is fed by a blower 1, and a fuel pump 5 is attached to a fuel pipe 4 which is connected to the inside of the pot 3. An automatic extinction means 8 operated by signals from an extinction operation means 6 and a seismic detector 7 is provided with an extinction system for an earthquake and fall-down. A signal from the seismic detector 7 is detected by a data detecting means 9 and according to the output of the data detecting means 9, a deciding means 10 outputs starting signals, outputted differently from each other during an earthquake and during fall-down, to the automatic extinction means 8. The automatic extinction means 8 operated by a starting signal on fall-down stops the fuel pump 5 and rotates the blower 1 at a high speed for a given time. During high speed rotation of the blower 1, the oil burner is erected and when a signal from the seismic detector 7 is detected, the blower 1 is rotated at a high speed for the second given time.
