摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To return the number NE of revolutions to the desired number of revolutions despite of the magnitude of a suction pipe pressure PM when the number NE of the revolutions of an engine is reduced to a value lower than the desired number of revolutions, regarding a control device for an internal combustion engine provided with a variable valve mechanism to vary the closing characteristics of a suction valve or an exhaust valve. SOLUTION: An amount of suction air flowing through a suction passage is controlled by a throttle opening TA. The valve timing of the suction valve and the exhaust valve is corrected (steps 108 and 128) such that torque of the internal combustion engine is increased when the NE is reduced. When the NE is reduced to a value lower than the desired number NE<SB>1</SB>of revolutions (steps 108 and 128) under environment where a suction pipe pressure PM is lower than a given pressureα(a step 102), the throttle opening TA is corrected (a step 126) such that a suction air amount is increased.
