447,554. Rotary plug valves. AUDLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and LEACH, R. W., Avenue Road, Newport, Shropshire. Feb. 2, 1935, No. 3465. [Class 135] A rotary plug valve comprises a tapered plug member b which is held onto its seating by a thrust bearing l. A lubricant chamber is provided in the body part at one or each end of the plug and a piston h is arranged in one or both ends of the plug and is subjected to fluid pressure from the line through the aperture i, to keep the lubricant under pressure. The plug is actuated through worm or other gearing q, r contained within the body part, by a spindle p which passes through a stuffing-box (as shown in Fig. 3, which is a modified arrangement) and has its outer end adapted to receive a handle or lever. The piston or pistons h may be subjected to spring pressure instead of, or in addition to, the fluid pressure from the line. The rod serves as an indicator of the position of the piston h. In the modified arrangement in Fig. 3, a rotary indicator 6 is geared to the spindle p to indicate the position of the plug. |
