PURPOSE:To heighten speed of recording and reproducing without generating jitter by providing a means that detects modulation clock of a modulation clock display means moving synchronously with a record detecting means. CONSTITUTION:A record detecting means 31 moves along the direction of extension of recording tracks relatively to a recording medium 1, records a recording signal and displays the signal. A modulation clock display means 36 modulates the length of time of specified data clock to the length of distance and displays. A modulation clock detecting means 38 that detects modulation clock displayed in the means 36 moving synchronously with the means 31 is provided. Thereby, even when relative moving speed between the means 31 and medium 1 is changed, recording having distance corresponding to the length of data clock necessary for recoding signals and reading having the length of data clock possessed by the recording signals can be performed respectively, and speed of recording and reproducing can be heightened.
