PURPOSE:To emphasize and display the specific area of a video by changing the brightness level of the first video signal according to the output of the signal level of the second video signal. CONSTITUTION:The second video signal generator 11 generates the second video signal having the high brightness in the area desired to be emphasized on the screen of a display device 9 and having the low brightness in other area. A brightness detecting circuit 14 compares the second video signal with a prescribed voltage to generate a binary brightness adjusting signal 15. When the brightness adjusting signal 15 is the signal of the high brightness indicating the emphasis area of the second video signal 2, a logic H is obtained, and when it is the signal of the low brightness indicating a deemphasis area, a logic L is obtained. A brightness amplifier circuit 7, when the brightness adjusting signal 15 is H in the logic, makes the brightness of the first video signal 1 higher than an ordinary case and supplies to the display device 9. Thereby, a picture reproduced by the display device 9 has only the emphasis area brighter than other area can give an appeal to a viewer.
