<p>A chromatographic column packing is produced by treating a packing base material with a silane coupling agent, pref. one of formula Ar(SiR1R2R3)n (I). In (I) Ar is an aromatic moiety; R2 and R2 are 1-20C alkyl, 3-5C alkenyl, 6-12C aryl (opt. substd. by halogen or lower alkyl), lower alkoxy or halogen; R3 is a lower alkoxy or halogen; n is 2-5. Pref. Ar is a benzene, naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene, acenaphthylene, biphenyl, 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene, thiophene or pyridine moiety; R1 and R2 are methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, t-butyl, pentyl, allyl, 2-butenyl, 3-butenyl, phenyl, 4-methylphenyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 1-naphthyl, 2-naphthyl, methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy, isopropoxy, butoxy, chloro, bromo or iodo; R3 is methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy, isopropoxy, butoxy, chloro, bromo or iodo; n is 2 or 3. Specifically, (I) is 1,4-bis(chlorodimethylsilyl)benzene, 1,4-bis(dimethylmethoxysilyl) -benzene, 1,3,5-tris(dimethyl-chlorosilyl) benzene, 1,3,5-tris(4-(chlorodimethylsilyl) phenyl)benzene, 1,4-bis(chlorodiphenylsilyl)benzene and 4,4'-bis(chlorodimethylsilyl)biphenyl.</p> |
