A compound of formula (I) in which R<1> is carboxy, COO<-> or protected carboxy, R<2> is hydroxy(lower)alkyl or protected hydroxy(lower)alkyl, R<3> is hydrogen or lower alkyl, and R<4> is substituted lower alkyl or substituted lower alkenyl and R<5> is hydrogen, or R<4> is hydrogen and R<5> is heterocyclic group or lower alkyl or R<4> is hydrogen and the formula: =N-R<5> is N,N-di(lower)alkylimino, or R<4> and R<5> are combined together to form optionally substituted imino-containing heterocyclic group, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, having antimicrobial activity.
