A control mechanism of a multi-pole circuit breaker includes a knuckle joint associated with an automatic triggering hook (82) and with an operating handle (64) interacting with a pivoting latching lever (96) which is arranged to block the handle (64) in an intermediate position in the event of welding of the contacts. Upon normal opening of the contacts, the latching lever (96) includes a radiating bearing surface (106) interacting with a protuberance on the bar (76) in order to keep the latching lever (96) in the first active position of the stop (102), during a first part of the opening travel of the moving contact (24) of each pole, and a notch for receiving the said protuberance causing unlatching of the latching lever (96) in order to free the seating in the vicinity of the end of opening travel of the moving contact. <IMAGE>
