Disclosed is a control apparatus and method to shorten braking distance of urgent braking. The apparatus comprises an idle switch, a brake switch, a brake manipulation value sensor, an engine rotation number sensor, a gearing controller, and an oil pressure control valve. The gearing controller defines whether an urgent braking is performed or not according to displacement per time of brake pedal, and controls gearing to be lower stage. The gear stage is to be lower than a current gear stage when a drive performs an urgent braking. Thereby, the braking distance is shortened for safe driving. |
