Assembly recovers metal swarf from liquid using back-pressure on filter

An assembly separates solid particles from a fluid in a sedimentation (1) vessel which has a solids removal device (2). The unit has two filter chambers (8,8'), the bases of which (11) are open. Filter cartridges (13) within the chambers (8,8') are cleaned from time to time by the application of compressed air introduced through the top (10) in the opposite direction to the normal flow of liquid. Sediment captured by the cartridges falls off and drops into the basin (1). The filter chamber (8,8') bases (11) are located within the sediment capture basin (1).
