PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make preventable a wrong attribute value from being registered by allowing a directory server to previously hold attribute values which can be registered. SOLUTION: The directory server 2 receives various directory access requests that a directory client 1 issues by a communication control part 11 and requests a retrieving and updating process for directory information of an entry management part 4 after a protocol analysis part 10 analyzes access contents. When an access object is permissible value information, the entry management part 4 requests the process of a permissible value management part 8. The permissible value management part 8 finds a line where the same name is stored as an attribute name by retrieval from a permissible value management table 9, takes out a combination of the reported attribute name and its value, and repeats a confirming process as all reported attributes. Then when a reported attribute value is different from a registered value, the entry management part 4 is informed of that and then notified that an updating process can not be performed for the client 1.
