PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably shorten time for detecting the connecting state of external equipment when turning on a power source or the like concerning a connection discriminating device for external equipment connection type device, with which equipment having an SCSI interface is connected as external equipment. SOLUTION: Concerning a device having an interface for connecting external equipment for returning a state notice signal as a response when a state inquiry signal is received, this device is provided with a setting means for a user to arbitrarily set wait time until the state notice signal can be sent after the power source of the external equipment is turned on or reset by an operator and a discriminating means for discriminating the connecting state of the external equipment by sending the state inquiry signal to the external equipment after the lapse of wait time and receiving the state notice signal of the response.
