PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spool or a cassette for a thermal transfer sheet or a thermal transfer image receiving sheet which can appropriately identify the kind of the thermal transfer sheet or the thermal transfer image receiving sheet without accompanying increase in cost and deterioration of appearance, and can identify a forgery, and can detects the amount of use.

SOLUTION: In the spool 1 winding and carrying a thermal transfer sheet or the thermal transfer image receiving sheet, or the cassette 2 holding the spool 1, a mark 3 is provided on a part or the whole of the surface by using a color material absorbing an electromagnetic wave with a wavelength ofλ1 and emitting another electromagnetic wave with a different wavelength ofλ2. It is possible thereby to appropriately identify the kind and the forgery and to calculate the amount of use without increasing the kind of the spool 1 or the cassette 2 itself and spoiling the appearance.
