PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hygroscopic polyester fiber which utilizes the strength and the like of a polyester fiber and simultaneously has excellent hygroscopicity. SOLUTION: This sheath-core type polyester fiber comprising a fiber-forming polymer as a sheath component and a hydrophilic component-dispersed fiber-forming polymer as a core component and having excellent hygroscopicity is characterized in that the dispersion diameter of the hydrophilic component in the core component is≤2.0μm and that a moisture-absorbing or releasing parameter (ΔMR) is≥1.0%.
