PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner and a developer which can be used in a toner recycling system without causing deformation or breaking of the toner, with little change in a surface condition of the toner, are free from a degradation in lasting quality of the developer, fogging, lowering of image density, stain on the background of the image, and toner change with environment, etc., and provide good image quality, and to provide an image forming apparatus and a detachable process cartridge. SOLUTION: The toner is used in an image forming method adopting a toner recycling system, contains at least a modified polyester resin, a colorant and a release agent, and has a volume average particle diameter (Dv) of 4.0-6.0μm, a ratio of (Dv) to (Dn) (Dv/Dn) of 1.00-1.30, wherein (Dn) represents a number average particle diameter and a shape factor SF-1 of 140-200.
