The invention relates to an extruder for shaping a stream of viscoelastic material such as rubber, comprising a plurality of areas (A, P, H, S) which are each assigned to a specific rheological function and are axially arranged from an upstream end to a downstream end of the extruder, and comprising an endless screw (2) which has a given diameter (D), comprising at least one helical thread (21) in each of the areas which radially extends from a central shaft (20) of the screw at a height (h1), in a direction and at a pitch which are defined for each of the areas, and which extruder is rotated about an axis (XX') in a barrel (1). The barrel (1) comprises at least one helical thread (11) which defines at least one helical path (12) along which a portion of the stream of material is intended to advance and which travels through each of said areas while radially extending towards the interior such that a height (h2) of the thread of the barrel is between 0.1 and 0.5 times the height (h1) of the thread of the screw. The thread of the barrel forms a helix which turns in the opposite direction to the direction of the helix formed by the thread of the screw. |
