An applicator for applying breaker fabric to a breaker building drum, comprises breaker centering means in the form of trays 12a, 12b which are spring biassed towards each other and are displaceable away from each other and from a fixed longitudinal center line 17, displacement occurring by virtue of contact between the trays and the breaker fabric edges. Transverse movement of the trays is rendered symmetrical relative to centre line 17 by rack and pinion mechanism 20-22. The trays include surfaces 15, 16 which define a narrower exit 14 than entrance 13 for accurately positioning the breaker fabric relative to line 17. The breaker centering means is movable relative to the frame of the applicator so that it can, in use, be extended towards and retracted away from the surface of the breaker building drum. A second breaker centering means is provided (Figs. 1-3 not shown), and the two means are extended consecutively, the retracted means being locked against extension. <IMAGE> |
