A process for the prefabrication, transport and placing of sections of off-shore piping comprises transport by barges of very thick high strength steel tubes during all the operations of assembly by welding in the dry docks of an old unused submarine shelter, specially equipped. Two to four sections are pref. assembled into sections 180-240 m long which are loaded into holds of an oil-ship converted for the transport of piping and having a forward opening for charging and discharging and equip. in the holds facilitating the stacking of 6-10 rows of 10-20 sections of piping in parallel. Special catamaran-type ships withdraw the sections one by one and lay thm in their final placing on the off-shore site, and prepare the site. The principal patent 7831296 showed the justification for and the advantages of prefabrication of sections of pipe-lines 300-450 m long. In the present addn. the sections are shorter, 70-80 m long, with flanges at each end. The old unused submarine shelter is easy to work and to equip rapidly. Transport by barges between successive work stations is more efficient than existing handling methods. The process is partic. useful for laying the heavy pipe-lines for distributing water at very high press. e.g. 250-300 bars from a central platform to wells for exploiting oil-bearing strata by water injection, or distributing water at rhedium press. e.g. 80-120 bars from the central platform to satellite platforms.
|
